Blog party
Hemanshu Kumar, professor and founder of the blog Eating Out in Delhi.

What are some of the best things you’ve had recently?
Last year, we discovered this kulfi guy, Kuremal Mahavir Prasad in Bazaar Sita Ram, near the Chawri Bazaar Metro station. He’s famous in the area. I would rate this as one of the best things I’ve eaten last year. Apart from the standard pista kulfi, which he calls the rabri kulfi, he makes a variety of seasonal kulfis that you don’t get anywhere else – anar [pomegranate] ki kulfi, phalsa [berry] ka kulfi…

The haleem at Purani Dilli in Zakir Nagar (near Jamia Milia Islamia University) tops the haleem list. I found this version better than in some of the places I’ve tried in Hyderabad. Haleem is traditionally available only during Ramzaan. In old Delhi it’s hard to find at any other time of the year. The great thing about this place is that haleem is available all year round.

We also had some excellent Changezi chicken, at this place called Planet Chicken near Bara Hindu Rao. It’s an immensely rich dish, it’s really hedonistic and it was made very well in this place.

We also found really good Amritsari kulche at Breakfast Point in Prashant Vihar, within Rohini. He also has branches around town.

Are Indian food blogs really taking off now?
Despite sites like www.burrp.com, individual bloggers who write quality reviews and supplement them with good photographs are relatively rare. Even the use of videos and other elements… Really, using the power of the web (I try to map the locations we go to on Google maps), whether it’s in terms of a group or a blog, is very much in its infancy, I feel.

What do you want to see online?
What is needed is for existing newspapers and magazines to make their content available with permanent links. Newspapers and magazines get published, people read them at that time, but two months down the line all that information goes down a black hole. Radhika Arora
